My 18 Three-Act Plays

Here is a list of my three-act plays with short synopses included:
1. THE MAIDEN AUNT
Farmer Dan Murphy involves his wife Mary in an elaborate scheme to get his hands on Mary’s aunt’s money.
Cast: 4M – 4F
2. THE HOUSE-HUSBAND
Henpecked husband, Paschal McHugh concocts an elaborate plan to impress his snooty, high-flying wife, Geraldine, but things do not go according to plan.
Cast: 5M – 4F
3. THE YES MAN
Gerry O’Brien is trying to impress his boss, Leonard Fletcher, but is foiled at every turn by his well-meaning godmother, Kitty O’Donnell.
Cast: 4M – 5F
4. MOTHER KNOWS BEST
Tess McDermott is trying match her daughter, Suzy with odious financial consultant, Adrian Bird, but Suzy falls for painter, Nick Cassidy. Tess is determined to break-up their romance.
Cast: 4M – 6F
5. HERE COMES THE BRIDE
Aisling Brady and Mark Conroy were to be married, but Aisling jilted him at the altar and went to Dublin. Now, she is coming back to be married to actor, Blaise Curtin. Mark discovers that Blaise is having an affair with Aisling’s sister, Ciara.

6. FORTUNES AND MISFORTUNES
Hard-working waitress, Daisy Fortune is sacked from her job in ‘The Cosy Corner’ café because of the antics of her good-for-nothing son, Nathan. She goes to work for aspiring poet and snob, Oonagh Delaney, who is planning a poetry workshop at her home. Chaos follows.

7. LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR
Michael and Noreen Mullen’s marriage is in trouble. Then Noreen’s ex-boyfriend, Claude Nolan, a detective garda and his beautician wife, Ingrid move in next door.

8. TOO CLOSE TO HOME
When budding playwright, James Ryan decides to base his first play on his father-in-law’s affair with a local physiotherapist, he doesn’t realize how complicated his life will get.

9. OUT OF THE FRYING PAN
When Breda Flynn sets out to rekindle her brother, John Joe’s failed romance with librarian, Elaine Duggan, the outcome has unforeseen consequences.
Cast: 3M – 5F
10. HITTING THE JACKPOT
Eamonn and Doreen Leslie win the lotto jackpot, but the winning lotto slip is missing and Eamonn thinks he lost it in neighbour Biddy Hunt’s house. Eamonn and Doreen have to find the slip before Biddy gets her hands on it.

11. THE TWO LOVES OF GABRIEL FOLEY
Bachelor farmer Gabriel Foley joins a posh drama group in order to romance the enigmatic Hazel Myers. However, unknown to Gabriel, his neighbour, Chrissie McCabe fancies him and is about to make her move. Who will Gabriel choose?

12. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
Marjorie Lord enjoys humiliating her spinster sister, Phyllis Maye by arranging disastrous blind dates for her. But then Phyllis meets the charming Emmet Hurley and the two begin a tentative relationship. Marjorie resolves to break them up.

13. I’M THE ONE FOR YOU
Dorrie Sinnott does a bit of cleaning for widowed farmer, Gerry O’Brien and has her eye on him. But a farming neighbour of Gerry’s, Jack O’Dowd is trying to romance Dorrie. Then Gerry meets colourful divorcee, Ruth Hickey and a chaotic love quadrangle develops.

14. LITTLE WHITE LIES
Pete O’Shea is leading a complicated double life. To his girlfriend, Bronagh Barrett he is a successful accountant, but he is, in fact, a lorry driver. When Pete’s lorry is stolen in embarrassing circumstances, his double life is exposed. As Pete tries to win back Bronagh, he is hampered by his over-zealous mother, Molly.

15. A FRIEND IN NEED
Life becomes very complicated for freelance journalist, Fergus Lambe when former girlfriend, Clodagh Fitzpatrick asks him for a favour.

16. LOVE KNOTS
The love life of teacher and part-time farmer, Larry Casey goes from complicated to chaotic when his neighbour, Vera Malone interferes.

17. A PLAYWRIGHT IN THE NEST
Chaos and complications ensue when Kay Kinsella invites her favourite playwright, Darcy Pride to stay after an apparent burglary at his home.

18. FOR BETTER, FOR WORSE
Gabriel Foley’s marriage to Chrissie McCabe is only three months old, but is already in trouble. However, things get a whole lot worse when Gabriel invites his recently-widowed, Aunt Lucy to stay.
