Plot:
Nancy Fitzgerald has high hopes for her daughter Claire’s fledgling romance with local farmer’s son, Anthony McDonnell. But then Nancy has a row with Anthony’s mother, Julie and becomes set against the relationship. So Claire and Anthony decide to carry on seeing each other behind Nancy’s back but with the knowledge and disapproval of Claire’s father, Johnny. Matters come to a head when Nancy tries to rekindle Claire’s failed romance with Dean Lawlor.

Most of the action takes place in the Fitzgerald’s living-room except for Act 2: Scene 1, which takes place in a quiet corner of a cafe in town, which only a few tables and chairs.
