Ballycogley end their festival run with ‘Mother Knows Best’

Ballycogley Players ended their seven festival run at the South Wicklow Drama Festival in Carnew, Co. Wicklow on Thursday night last with my play, ‘Mother Knows Best’. With the results from the South Wicklow DF still to be announced, the Ballycogley Players have so far won (in the Confined Section) Best Actress (Mary Doyle) and Best Actor (Con Doyle) and Best Choice of Play Awards in Kilmuckridge DF; Best Supporting Actress (Kathleen Tierney) award plus nominations for Best Set, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor at Ballinamore DF; and Best Supporting Actress, Best Newcomer (Sean Carthy), Best Supporting Actor (Con Doyle), Best Stage Crew awards and Audience Cup at the New Ross DF.
I’d like to congratulate them on all their achievements. I want to thank them and their director Fintan Murphy for picking my play and for all the hard work they put into it over the past number of months.
I had the privilege of meeting them, all too briefly, at the Ballinamore Drama Festival and of seeing their production of my play. It was a wonderful and faithful rendition of my play, which is a work close to my heart. I was fortunate that Ballinamore is only an hour’s journey from me as all their other venues were too far away.
Although my play, ‘Too Close To Home’ had been staged at one festival in 2007, my work had never been showcased in a run of festivals like this and I wasn’t sure how festival audiences would react to it. Fortunately, ‘Mother Knows Best’ has been very well received at the seven festivals.
Again, congratulations to the Ballycogley Players and I wish them continued success in the future..
